Sunday, February 24, 2008:

Belly Ball Productions Presents: Workshops with Aepril Schaile:
@ Bath Dance Works, 72 Front Street, Bath, ME 04530

2:00 - 3:30PM
Animating the Veil: Breathing Life into the Dance with Spirited Veilwork
The Veil: long a symbol of feminine beauty and mystery, used by bellydancers as a flowing prop and extension of costuming. In this workshop, we bring veilwork to another level, adding drama, emotion, and expression, learning to skillfully use the veil as an extension of the physical and energetic body. Please dress in comfortable clothing, and bring a veil of approximately 3 yards in length (china silk or silk chiffon, which floats beautifully in the space, is strongly recommended).

4:00 - 5:30PM
The Four Elements: Bellydancing with Presence, Soul, Authenticity, and Power
What makes a dancer compelling to watch? Is it flawless form and technical skill? Is it beautiful costuming? Or is there more to it? In this workshop, we will bring forth our own personal stories and vision to the dance via moving meditation, visualization, and improvisational work. We will work with what has heart and meaning in the dance, increasing stage presence and charisma. Prepare to be inspired!

$25.00 Per Workshop or Both for $45.00, FMI or to register, contact Josephina: (207) 442-8880 or josephina@suscom-maine.net

Workshops also offered by Aepril:

Eeie Serpents and Ethereal Grace : Hands and Arms in Dark Fusion Bellyance: Learn to achieve dramatically expressive and "bonelessly" undulating hands and arms via moving meditation, drills, and visualization. Suitable for all levels of dance experience.

Bellydance Drama and the Energy Body:

"Anything physical we do that we imbue with invisible intention is a ritual"--Caroline Casey (astrologer and bellydancer)

Both Bellydance and Theater have their origins in ritual; the ancients knew that to express oneself through movement or story is to be in touch with the invisible world. Expanding upon basic Bellydance technique and form as foundational tools, and via moving meditation, we will explore the ways in which we can use the invisible energies of our bodies and minds to bring magic and power to our dancing, working with story, mood, myth, and meaning.

Of a Darker Veil: Gothic Veil Technique

The Veil: long a symbol of feminine beauty and mystery, used by bellydancers as a flowing prop and extension of costuming. In Gothic Belly Dance, we move with the veil into darker places, infusing the silk with the occult powers of shapeshifting; disappearing and reappearing behind and before it in a dance of mystery and revelation; whirling in a flight of ethereal drama and otherworldliness...In this workshop, you will be initiated into the magic of Gothic veilwork, learning to use the flow of the silk to bring forth the dark feminine beauty within. Please dress in comfortable clothing, and bring
a veil (preferably china silk, or silk chiffon, which floats beautifully in the space) of approximately 3 yards in length.

Bellydancing the Goddess:

"All acts of love and pleasure are My rituals."

Bellydancing is thought by many to be a last vestige (and revival!) of ancient dances of the Sacred Feminine. In this workshop, we will explore Bellydance as a ritual dance of the Goddess through basic Bellydance movements and moving meditation; we will also touch on the history of Goddess dance, and the idea of the living Goddess as archetypal energies in all of us.

Raks Gothique: An Intro to Gothic Bellydance

What is Gothic Bellydance? What makes it different from other bellydance I've seen? Is it just the dark costuming?...or something more... "
As it has developed, Gothic Bellydance (or Raks Gothique) has become an artform all its own, embodying drama, introspection, contrast, mystique...the shadowy side of Bellydance. In this workshop we learn new techniques for dark dramatic dance; we will also cover the costuming, props, and music that is used by the dark dancer. For the beginner and the advanced bellydancer. Just bring yourself, and something to tie around your hips!
