Please dress in comfortable clothing, and bring a veil of approximately 3 yards in length (china silk or silk chiffon, which floats beautifully in the space, is strongly recommended).

OTHER WORKSHOPS OFFERED BY AEPRIL

Bellydance Drama and the Energy Body:

"Anything physical we do that we imbue with invisible intention is a ritual"--Caroline Casey (astrologer and bellydancer)

Both Bellydance and Theater have their origins in ritual; the ancients knew that to express oneself through movement or story is to be in touch with the invisible world. Expanding upon basic Bellydance technique and form as foundational tools, and via moving meditation, we will explore the ways in which we can use the invisible energies of our bodies and minds to bring magic and power to our dancing, working with story, mood, myth, and meaning.

Of a Darker Veil: Gothic Veil Technique

The Veil: long a symbol of feminine beauty and mystery, used by bellydancers as a flowing prop and extension of costuming. In Gothic Belly Dance, we move with the veil into darker places, infusing the silk with the occult powers of shapeshifting; disappearing and reappearing behind and before it in a dance of mystery and revelation; whirling in a flight of ethereal drama and otherworldliness...In this workshop, you will be initiated into the magic of Gothic veilwork, learning to use the flow of the silk to bring forth the dark feminine beauty within. Please dress in comfortable clothing, and bring
a veil (preferably china silk, or silk chiffon, which floats beautifully in the space) of approximately 3 yards in length.

Bellydancing the Goddess:

"All acts of love and pleasure are My rituals."

Bellydancing is thought by many to be a last vestige (and revival!) of ancient dances of the Sacred Feminine. In this workshop, we will explore Bellydance as a ritual dance of the Goddess through basic Bellydance movements and moving meditation; we will also touch on the history of Goddess dance, and the idea of the living Goddess as archetypal energies in all of us.
